Clashes were reported today in the jihadist stronghold of Saqba in the embattled east Ghouta region between the militants of Jaish Al-Islam and Faylaq Al-Rahman.
Jaish Al-Islam issued a statement accusing Faylaq Al-Rahman of attacking the “Office of Damascus Countryside” that belongs to the temporary opposition-led transitional government. As a result of the violent clashes in the city, 9 members of the office were struck including some mediators between the two factions.
A few months ago, a jihadist civil war took place in eastern Ghouta that resulted in the deaths of over 700 militants. The government forces capitalized on the infighting and seized over a dozen villages. Should the infighting escalate in this troubled region, the Syrian Army will most likely escalate its operations to capture more territory.
