Shortly after imposing full control over the imperative town of Maydaa (Mide’a), the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) pushed further west and managed to enter the small village of Mid’anah in rural Damascus.
Moments ago, SAA forces even captured the eastern part of Mid’anah although clashes are ongoing as we speak in its western part.
A military source in the area said approximately 20 Islamist fighters have been killed in and around Mid’anah so far today; he did not specify the SAA’s death toll.
Meanwhile, preliminary reports suggest Jaish al-Islam are pulling out rapidly of the region, thus leaving little hope for rebel-held areas in the East Ghouta pocket which have diminished significantly in 2016.
If the SAA is to capture the East Ghouta entirely, this will likely result in a domino effect eventually leading to government troops reclaiming the Syrian capital itself.
