BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:45 A.M.) – Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Kalashnikov Concern’s shooting range and tested the company’s brand new sniper rifle in Kubinka on Wednesday.

After inspecting the experimental samples of the rifles, Putin shot five times with an SVCh-308 (Chukavin sniper’s rifle) rifle at a target from a distance of 600 meters. Three of the president’s shots successfully hit the target.

According to Kalashnikov, the SVCh-308 rifle is designed to engage the enemy’s manpower at small and medium distances.

It can be used in conditions of combined arms combat as well as for keeping a cover.

The rifle’s small dimensions allow the shooter to do without additional weapons, which increases mobility.

SVCh-308 is theversion shooting .308NATO rounds.
SVCh also exists in 7.62×54 ‘Russian’, same as the Dragunov and many Russian riffles and medium machineguns, and also in .338LapuaMagnum (8.6×70) which has probably became the most common sniper caliber nowadays, .50BMG (12.7×99) from heavy machine gun has also became common but is more considered for ‘anti-material’ riffles.
More about the riffle here :

Bit of a mean kick , could end up with a black eye very easily.. Luckily you have to eject the spent cartridge otherwise your mate 200 meters away could lose his head.

It’s a semi-auto like old school Dragunov. Normally, the spent brass self ejects.

Yes that is what I would have thought but you can see quite clearly when Vlad fires it ejects only when he recocks the weapon. That could explain the extra kick back as all the energy is going into propelling the round rather than some of it cocking and rejecting. It does look like a 7.62/308 long round on closer look at the eject cartridge.

SVCh-308 : IT IS a 4.62×51 AKA .308Winchester AKA .308 NATO.
If Tsar Vlad had to eject manually, it’s surely due to a missed ejection of the used round since the system ejects the brass when the gas pushes the piston back then automatically loads the next round in the chamber :

They probably turned the tuning system too tight 😉

I assume the 308 refers to the round. 308 being the same as 7.62. The old NATO round was 7.62 long for the FN , SLR , G3 ,+++ 7.62 medium was for the AK , RPD , SKS ++++ The 7.62 short was for the Togorov pistol and what else don’t know.. So this looks like a 7.62 long going by the kickback

.308 means .308Winchester AKA .308NATO AKA 7.62×51 (51 = 51mm length case). It’s shot by this version of SVCh. Yup, same as in old G3, FN FAL, M60 machinegun (Rambo), Gatling MiniGun etc etc or… more recent HK417, FN SCAR-H. 7.62x54R is for Dragunov, medium Russian machineguns and was introduced on the Mosin-Nagant M1891 riffle. 7.62x39R M1943 is the AK-47/AKM/SKS/RPD round. I think you’re speaking about the Tokarev TT-30 (model 1930) pistol. Its 7.62×25 is in fact a slightly modified 7.63×25 from the famous Mauser C96 and is also famous for the PPSh-41 SMG… Ever shot this? The rate of… Read more »

.308Wnchester used here is OK as long as you don’t have a full-auto riffle shooting bursts. 3600J muzzle
.300Winchester-Magnum I use to hunt hogs or deers kicks way much more.
There is a SVCh-8.6 shooting .338Lapua-Magnum, this is even more serious…

A sad PR excercise to polish his ”tough guy” image , while he permits the Israelis to go about unperturbed and unhindered bombing the cities , airports , ports of Syria. Too small an effort to defuse the image of being obsequious to the God-chosen tricksters. Maybe Syria can get a modern A/A missile system from China.

More simple: let Iranians respect international laws, UN charter and UNSC resolutions then stop dong arms trafficking onto an UN-banned ‘militia’, namely Hezbollah, both openly sayng they’re at work to destroy the Israeli state which technically speaking, is a state for the Jewish people and many Jews are absolutely not in bigotry, many prominent Jews being even well known for their total atheism. Israelis are not bombing cities and as soon as you use a civilian facility like Damascus airport for military purposes, including illegal transfer of weapons, the place is no more protected by Hague Convention, exactly like if… Read more »
