Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday he considered the latest fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet as the world’s best military plane.

“This is the best plane today, the world’s best aircraft,” Putin said at a meeting with the winners of the Russian Leaders contest. This is the world’s best plane “by all its operational characteristics and by its armament,” the Russian leader added.

“No other aircraft can fly as well as our plane,” the head of the Russian state stressed.

The Su-57 is a fifth-generation multirole fighter designed to destroy all types of air targets at long and short distances and hit the enemy ground and naval targets, overcoming its air defense capabilities.

The Su-57 took to the skies for the first time on January 29, 2010. Compared to its predecessors, the Su-57 combines the functions of an attack plane and a fighter jet while the use of composite materials and innovative technologies and the fighter’s aerodynamic configuration ensure the low level of radar and infrared signature.

The plane’s armament will include, in particular, hypersonic missiles. The fifth-generation fighter jet has been successfully tested in combat conditions in Syria.

Now, the VERY good thing about Su-57 : the Byelka radar system has 6 radars!

Especially the two L-band ones in wings roots : these “see” F-22, F-35, J-20 and J-31 (but will be useless against Rafale’s active stealth). Su-57 is a kinda E-2C/D Hawkeye naval AWACS!

Nothin special with 101KS : F-35 has its DAS, Rafale is on its 2nd gen. with DDM-NG

And 101KS-N is a stealth version of the Damocles targetting pod France sold to Russia 😉

Now the interesting option : the 101KS-V EO/IRST is Russia’s 1st gen of QWIP (Quantum well infrared photodetector). Well, they’re 17 years late on Rafale, nevertheless…

Yanks and Chinese are prototyping but still haven’t fielded such a device while France is already using a 2nd gen. QWIP 🙂

The good point for Su-57 : if facing the Yank or Chinese stealth aircraft, Su-57 is likely to see them 1st, even if stealth is partly flawed.

Won’t be the same facing smaller and moreover colder Rafale or Tejas if the definitive Tejas follows the Rafale-team advising which is highly wishable.

Will have hypersonic missiles? Well, the BrahMos-II may be on the table, so is our ASN4G hypersonic one too. For now, Su-30/35/57 have Mach2.8 BrahMos “I” as we have Mach3 ASMP-A 😉

Nevertheless, direct view on engine fan = no stealth!

Meanwhile, Rafale’s air intakes shield the blades:

But moreover, thanks to ONERA researches and Thales, no need for the aircraft to look like Picasso’s cubism : active cancellation of radar waves works better 🙂

Now look at this system on Su-57, it’s called LEVCON :

You have these LEVCONs (Leading Edge Vortex Controller) on HAL’s Tejas too :

Sukhoi copied it on the Tejas which’s initial blueprints where bought from… Dassault in 1988 😉 My 2 cents on why Dassault don’t want to have HAL building Rafales 😉

That’s why India, which paid for 50% of R&D, pulled out while their militaries said it underperformed in everything and was less stealth than Rafale 😉

You don’t abandon an aicraft project where you’ve already put $6.1bln unless it seriously süx and big league…

Especially only 8 months after having re-injected $3.1bln into the R&D in the hope to save the day…

Yankees also say that F-22 and F-35 are the best in the world, except that if you’re careful, you notice such quotes :

“If I do not keep that F-22 fleet viable, the F-35 fleet frankly will be irrelevant. The F-35 is not built as an air superiority platform. It needs the F-22”
– Gen. Michael Hostage, boss of USAF Air Combat Command

While a Pentagon SPOX said that F-35 needed F-22, Typhoon or Rafale to protect it… And F-22 still has x486 computers onboard 😉
