Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has promoted some generals to higher military ranks for their role in the Russian air task force’s operation in Syria and inter-Syrian talks.
Head of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operations Department Sergei Rudskoi and Chief of Russia’s National Defense Control Center Lieutenant-General Mikhail Mizintsev have been promoted to the rank of the Colonel-General, according to a document posted on the official legal information website.
Rudskoi regularly holds briefings for journalists on Syria, the operations of the Russian air task force and combat engineers in that country and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Mizintsev, as was reported earlier, has organized inter-department work on Russian forces’ operations in Syria.
Commander of Russia’s Long-Range Aviation Sergei Kobylash and Deputy Head of the General Staff’s Main Operations Department Stanislav Gadzhimagomedov have received the rank of the Lieutenant-General.
The bombers Tupolev Tu-22M3, Tu-95MS and Tu-160 of Russia’s long-range aviation commanded by Kobylash numerously delivered strikes on terrorists’ positions in Syria.
Gadzhimagomedov twice headed the Russian Defense Ministry’s delegation at talks with the Syrian opposition in Astana.
