BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:08 P.M.) – Russian President Vladimir Putin promoted several officers from the Russian Armed Forces, security services, and other law enforcement agencies in Moscow on Thursday.
He the also used the occasion to thank those who participated in Russia’s operations in Syria.
Commending the service men for their contribution to Russian security, Putin noted that the armed forces had been “seriously strengthened” in recent years.
He added that they were now “capable of repelling any aggression against Russia, protecting our citizens, our country, and our allies.”
“Today, the highest ranked officers who participated in the operation of the Russian army against terrorists in Syria stand in this room. I want to thank you for the high professionalism, for your courage and “We will continue to develop the defence heroism,” Putin continued.
“We will continue to develop the defence potential of the country, equip all types of troops with new generation weapons and equipment. First of all, this applies to the strategic nuclear forces. By the end of 2020, modern weapons should comprise 60 percent, and for certain parameters, up to 90 percent,” Putin concluded.
