BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:45 P.M.) – According to an investigative report by the Reuters news group, there exists a school in Indonesia which openly endorses the ideology of the Islamic State terrorist group and which even serves as a recruitment base for sending fighters – among them children – to Syria to wage jihad.
The Ibnu Mas‘ud Islamic bording school in Indonesia’s West Java region has been suspected for some time to be a “safe haven” for ISIS sympathizers. Western media reports looking into this possibility can be dated back 18 months.
Indonesian court records attained by Reuters show that at least twelve people from the school have gone to or attempted to go to Syria to fight on behalf of ISIS over the period of 2013 to 2016 and that of this number, 8 were teachers and 4 were children.
Furthermore, Reuters found that another eighteen people who are connected to the school have been either arrested or at least convicted for carrying out or planning to carry out acts of terrorism or insurgency in Indonesia.
It is believed that ISIS has at least twelve hundred supporters in Indonesia and that, in addition to this, about 500 Indonesians have gone to fight for the terrorist group in Syria.
