BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:59 A.M.) – Unknown gunmen have shot dead a policeman in the oil-rich Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, the Interior Ministry revealed.
The shooting near the central hospital in Qatif occurred late on Tuesday night when police attempted to stop a suspicious car.
The statement released by the Interior Ministry revealed that after the suspicious car opened fire at police, one of the officers was killed.
According to the ministry, police later managed to stop the suspects’ vehicle but they fled “while shooting randomly” in a doctor’s car they stole.
Eastern Saudi Arabia is the home of the puritanical kingdom’s Shi’ite minority.
