BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:10 A.M.) – Iraq’s Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, has warned against an independent Kurdistan in northern Iraq, claiming it would only harm the Kurds.

“That is totally objectionable. We are serious about Iraq’s territorial integrity,” Abadi said in an interview with the Iraqi Kurdistan region’s Rudaw media outlet.

“I have asked the Kurdish leaders not to out us or themselves in an embarrassing situation,” the Iraqi prime minister said.

“I don’t like prolonging the issue of referendum because the result is already obvious. But the question is whether they will act on the results or not?” he said.

“Separation now and in the past has done the Kurds harm because your neighbors do not accept that either,” Abadi concluded.

Parece que Barzani quiere convertirse en el nuevo Califa de Kurdistan, no olvidemos que Barzani es aliado de Turquía, por tanto ya sabemos a donde apunta.

It is only right that the Yasidi, Turkmen and Kurds get a state. Iraq did not protect them, persecuted and discriminated them.

When the Kurds got a federal entity to protect them – the Baghdad rulers did not pay them the agreed part of the oil revenues.

Barzani fue quien abandonó a su suerte a los yazadies, tuvieron que llegar los Kurdos PKK para salvarlos, Barzani juega sucio a favor de Erdogan.

Imagine countries in the region, i.e. Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey transformed into Kurdish Governance. Now that’s a daring idea!

That is no warning but blackmail. Iraq government doesn’t pay its dues and when Kurds act on it the threaten them. That all neighbors will attack a Kurdish entity.

p.s. IMHO Turkey’s neo-Ottoman policies want Bazanistan independent because of its oil and other business. So Abadi might be wrong on solidarity of the Turks.

Paying dues to whom? It’s the kurds living in an Arab Iraq, not Arabs living in Kurdish. Kurds are persian people, their homeland is Iran.

Dues [financial contributions]. Iraq central government has failed to pay the agreed money for Peshmerga and other things. That the Kurds leave is the result. => Arab Iraq => Who gave You idea the Arabs own Iraq? p.s. The Kurds always lived in Kurdistan. See old Greek and Roman sources. The Assyrians lived also in Iraq. During that time Arabs still lived near Mekka in the desert. Don’t You know the Noble Quran? Modern Iraq: The colonial powers made its borders after WW I. It included parts of of East Kurdistan. And Iraq then had three constitutionally recognized major ethnic groups.… Read more »

The warning is a sincere one. A Kurdistan will likely embolden Kurds in Syria, Turkey and possibly Iran to become more active militarily. In todays less stable world, Turkey would take that as an opportunity to invade a la Crimea, Syria, etc. Then the Kurds would be in an even worse situation. Would Erdogan then move to seize Rojava under the same pretense? The potential for tragedy exists in a one-sided decision by the Kurds to create their own Kurdistan out of northern Iraq. Waiting until hostilities calm, and all the regional interests meet under international arbitration to get a… Read more »

One tends to forget that the Kurs are 35 million without a state to protect their right and that their borders were drawn by colonial powers.

Where is their democratic self rule promised to all defeated and colonial nations in Wilson’s 14 points a hundred years ago.

Barzani is Erdogan’s creature. The neo-Ottoman empire comes. Blaming Zionists, Neolibs and Neocons does not change a thing.

p.s. The Arabs failed to protect the Assyrians, Kurds, Turmens and Yasidi… and gave them no part in the rule and discriminated them.

The Shiite Baghdad regime continues Saddam’s wasta politics.
Only that this time Shiites are the only ones to get.

Yes Nestor, absolutely. & IMHO The Yazidis were sacrificed by the withdrawing of the Peshmerga to get more help from the West against IS. Most Kurds in Iraq are Sunni who think Yazidis worship the devil, so… Only the atheist YPG and PKK helped them immediately.

They have oil, they’ll have no problems to buy Arrow2&3, Iron Dome, Iron Beam, David’s Sling, Rafales, Su-25s, Leclerc tanks, Caesar cannons, etc etc etc… They’re already kick ass, once geared with such stuff, well… There are 40 millions Kurds over 4 countries… I think the weather bulletin on Rudaw is pretty expressive about the end goals 😉 http://minoritism.nl/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/kurds-2.jpg Why do I think that Armenia may double its size and gain an access to Black Sea… With Erdolf playing with fire with the EU, Russia, China, Israel, well… I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Kurdistan ending with Arrow2+3, Iron… Read more »

Currently Barzanistan is almost broke. Baghdad did not pay the agreed part of the oil revenues. That is why they are at odds.

p.s. Bazanistan has oil but who will buy? Erdodan – he he may want part of the land because of Turkmens living in the North Iraq.

It would be my dream to see something like this happens. Finally, someone who knows the true terror actions of the Turkish state. The Turks are officially allied with US, yet they still talk shit about Americans everyday. Majority of Turks despise American society. They still burn the American flag like cave dwellers. In the KRG for example, it was very hospitable to American troops. They could go out without their body armour in a war torn country. Not a single American troop died in Iraqi Kurdistan, being stationed there was considered a rest. I remember as a kid seeing… Read more »
