BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:05 P.M.) – On Wednesday, various rebel groups operating out of northern Hama province combined to launched a powerful offensive against the Syrian Army.
Code-named ‘Wrath for Ghouta,’ the militant offensive was aimed at avenging allied rebel factions in Damascus’ East Ghouta region; it was also hoped that the assault would relieve pressure on them by forcing the Syrian Army to divert military resources towards Hama province.
In the event, insurgents came head to head with the elite 555th Regiment of the 4th Mechanized Division who – supported by local pro-government forces, tanks, artillery and airstrikes – would turn the rebel offensive back on itself within a matter of hours.
When the dust settled, the Syrian Army had not only killed and injured many dozens of militant fighters, but would also lay claim to a small loot of heavy equipment that had been abandoned.
