BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:20 P.M.) – Elite forces of the Syrian Arab Army have thwarted an attempt by Islamic State militants to break through government lines in western Deir Ezzor with a car bomb attack.

On Thursday, units of the elite ISIS Hunters detachment of the Syrian Army in Deir Ezzor province’s western countryside found themselves the target of an ISIS car bomb attack that was launched – seemingly out of nowhere – from the desert.

The army unit managed to engage the incoming car bomb, knocking off the back end of it with a direct hit that, interestingly enough, did not lead to the detonation of the vehicle’s deadly cargo.

The Syrian troops who were part of the unit that came under attack, being stationed along the western shore of the Euphrates, are upholding a blockade of ISIS in the vast desert area than spans western Deir Ezzor to eastern Homs provinces – within this pocket it is believed that as many as two hundred fighters of the terrorist group remain.
