DAMASCUS, SYRIA (0:00 A.M.) – A series of photos have been obtained by Al-Masdar News depicting a deadly battle that took place on Monday between Failaq Al-Rahman and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the eastern Damascus suburb of Ayn Tarma.
The skirmishes initially saw the SAA’s 105th and 106th Brigades of the Republican Guard storm and capture many buildings from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) faction in the morning hours. Later in the afternoon, rebel forces launched a massive counter-attack which had the Republican Guards fight for every newly captured inch.
After clashes unfolded for several hours, over 20 FSA fighters were shot dead as the counter-attack proved largely unsuccessful. A handful of seasoned Republican Guard members also sustained injuries although none were killed-in-action on Monday.
A unit operating under the command of the 105th brigade were accommodated by a German Shepherd used to sniff out nearby enemy combattants. The dog has appeared in many earlier photos from the capital and has become somewhat of a frontline celebrity:
