BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M.) – The Jaysh al-Islam militant group, a coalition of Islamist and jihadist fighters, has repelled an attempt by pro-government forces to capture the entirety of the Hawsh Al-Dawahra area in East Ghouta.
Yesterday the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) made a significant advance towards the village of Hawsh Al-Dawahra by crossing the river to its west and capturing a number of farms from Jaysh al-Islam on the settlement’s outskirts.
However, today the militant group counter-attacked and forced the SAA to retreat back towards its starting-off positions.
According to reports, Jaysh al-Islam managed to damage one SAA tank and inflict around 5 causalities on army ranks. Furthermore, the militant group managed to seize a bridge-laying vehicle that SAA had used to cross the aforementioned river yesterday.
