DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:10 P.M.) – Amaq Agency released a new batch of pictures on Thursday, showing ISIS units scouting out advances conducted by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the Maskanah Plains, located on the provincial border between Raqqa and Aleppo.

Upon discovering the SAA assault troops, known as the Tiger Forces, the Islamic State responded with mortar shells, gunfire and tanks:

The SAA’s Tiger Forces – led by commander-in-chief Suheil Al-Hassan – are a few kilometers from the large town of Maskanah which represents ISIS’ last stronghold in Aleppo province.

Thus far, government forces have bypassed jihadist strong points in the Maskanah Plains through a preplanned pincer manuever, hoping to force ISIS to abandon Maskanah without a fight or face encirclement and certain death.
