DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:15 P.M.) – Rival jihadist factions continued to battle it out in the Yarmouk Camp on Thursday as ISIS insurgents retook urban areas in southern Damascus which Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) otherwise captured two days ago.
In addition to recapturing its lost areas in the former Palestinian refugee camp, ISIS said it had killed 10 HTS (Syrian Al-Qaeda branch) militants in an overnight counter-attack.
With clashes resuming amid fierce close-quarter combat throughout the day, Amaq Agency released a series of pictures showing ISIS infiltration units in action:
Fighters loyal to HTS control only the northern section of the Yarmouk Camp, making up little more than 10% of the largely ISIS-held district.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Army has the entire urban area ringed although government forces are unlikely to enter before finishing their operations in east Damascus where an offensive to liberate the Al-Qaboun and Barzeh suburbs is still underway.
