DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:30 P.M.) – Over 20 images were released by Amaq Agency today covering a huge counter-offensive against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on the provincial desert border between Homs and Deir Ezzor, directly west of Hamimah town and the T2 Pumping Station. The attack caused SAA infantry units to retreat, the photos suggest.
During the surprise offensive, ISIS militants overran what appeared to be SAA sleeping tents, later to behead a SAA soldier and burn his body (these graphic photos will not appear below). In addition, jihadist fighters downed a drone with anti-aircraft guns, seized vital ammunition and captured a SAA tank after its crew was forced to flee after running out of fuel:
Nevertheless, the SAA’s 5th Corps and 18th Tank Division quickly regrouped and responded with brute force, deploying artillery and anti-tank missiles to target ISIS technicals and suspected suicide bombers, thereby driving back much of their initial advance.
