BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 P.M.) – Early on Thursday, forces of the Syrian Army and Muslim Brotherhood affiliate militia Ahrar al-Sham in Damascus’ East Ghouta region exchanged a number of combatant prisoners.
All reports indicate that Ahrar al-Sham handed over thirteen captured Syrian Army soldiers in exchange for five of its own fighters which until then had been held by government forces.
Both belligerents had captured the other side’s men at various points in time amid major battles throughout the district town of Harasta – the residential area long since serving as the one and only stronghold for Ahrar al-Sham forces in East Ghouta.
The prisoner transfer coincides with the evacuation of Ahrar al-Sham fighters from Harasta to northwest Syria, this process being started today (Thursday) morning and likely to go on for another week.
