BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:00 P.M.) – Photos have been released showing a class of special-purpose interior ministry troops of the Syrian Armed Forces undergoing their final training program before officially graduating and being pressed into service.
According to sources, the final training course for interior troops is a team-level coordinated shooting drill as the images below show.
Active interior ministry troop units are currently stationed in Damascus’ Harasta District as well as in the government-controlled areas surrounding Douma town in East Ghouta.
Interior ministry troops of the Syrian Armed Forces are tailor trained in the role of storming buildings and locking down city sectors using only light weapons making them well-suited for urban warfare.
Alongside regular army forces, interior ministry troops partake in major engagements around Damascus when such operations flare up. However, unlike army forces who are equipped with heavy weapons and are expected to carry out a wide variety of tasks during a given mission, the duties expected of lightly-armed interior ministry troops are much more refined insofar as they as given very specific tactical objectives during battles.
