DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:25 P.M.) – Three photos emerged on Friday strongly suggesting none other than Abu Mohammad Al-Julani himself to be the commander-in-chief of the Islamist operations room masterminding the ongoing northern Hama offensive.
Abu Mohammad Al-Julani is the leader of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, a newly formed jihadist coalition which the US has deemed a terror organization. The notorious jihadist commander formerly led Jabhat Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda’s main branch in Syria.
Although over a dozen rebel factions are involved in the northern Hama offensive, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has been the leading component of the large-scale Islamist offensive which ultimately looks to seize the provincial capital of Hama.
Jihadists have dubbed the battle for northern Hama ‘Tell Them to Work’, a phrase from the Quran. Meanwhile, the offensive was brought into effect after Liwa al-Aqsa (Jund al-Aqsa) virtually dissolved itself, thereby putting an end to jihadist infighting in Idlib province.
