A minivan loaded with explosives and ammunition exploded in the southern province of As-Suwayda after being shot by Syrian Army soldiers.
The vehicle was heading from the western to the eastern fringes of the province and used by jihadi militants to smuggle weapons and ammunition.
A military source told Al Masdar News that the government troops opened fire at the vehicle after refusing to stop for a regular check near the city of Shabha. “Once hit by our machine gunfire, the minivan exploded; meaning it was loaded with explosives and ammunition”, the source added.
In June 2015, the Southern Front of the Free Syrian Army and allied Islamic Front captured the 52nd Mechanized Brigade base in eastern Daraa. The offensive extended to Thula airbase in western As-Suwayda but was repelled by the Syrian Army and pro-government local fighters.
