BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:55 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) kicked off the third phase of their Deir Ezzor offensive, Wednesday, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) last positions in-and-around the provincial capital.

Led by elements of their Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army began the offensive on Wednesday night by liberating the strategic 1082 Air Defense Base that is located south of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.

Following the liberation of the 1082 Air Defense Base, the Syrian Arab Army’s Republican Guard forces entered the key town of Al-Muri’iyah, liberating the Al-Rafe’ Al-Oulah Station at the northern part of Al-Muri’iyah.

Since liberating these sites, the Syrian Arab Army has pushed further south of the Al-Rafe’ Al-Oulah Station, reaching the poorly fortified farms under the Islamic State’s control.

Meanwhile, in the nearby town of Jafra, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th and 137th brigades are attempting to reach the western bank of the Euphrates River, while Russian jets continue to pound the Islamic State’s positions.

The Syrian Arab Army also liberated the large hilltop of Tal Kroum last night after engaging in a fierce battle with the Islamic State forces outside the provincial capital.

More details to come…
