BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:59 P.M.) – The Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Gennady Gatilov, said that discussions between Syrian government allies and Syrian opposition groups – under the umbrella of the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) – will continue until “the goal of independence and territorial integrity” has been reached.

He made the comments when speaking at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Wednesday.

In an interview after meeting with the HNC during the fifth round of intra-Syrian peace talks, Gatilov iterated that both delegations are “very much in favour of having positive results”.

He then went on to stress that questions around governance in Syria “should be decided by Syrians themselves.”

  1. The goal of independence and territorial integrity is only reached when the “High Negotiations Committee (HNC)” mercenaries GCC paymasters are excluded from decisions and the Syrian people can decide about the future in equal, secret and democratic elections.

    • And there are no other ways to go.
But frankly, I doubt about any form of negotiated peace : hey, those loonies are much worst than mercenaries : mercenaries fight for the money! The roaches are sectarian driven, it’s worst than facing fascits as once those have their leadership neutralised, it’s finished while religious fanatics have an imaginary friend as a leader (and the ones who cook Captagon as dealers. Note that the biggest seizures and workshop raided were in Lebanon, incl. 2 tons in a private jet belonging to a Saudi prince, before departing to Riyadh)

      • They have another offensive going. So they are coy about peace.

p.s. Syria had 30% poor souls that were under poverty threshold. They had nothing but opium for the masses as Karl M. put it. IMHO They fight for money. Withdraw the money it stops.
