BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 P.M.) – Palestine has submitted a document to join the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is effective on June 16, 2018, the OPCW website announced this afternoon.

“On May 17, 2018, the State of Palestine submitted a document on the accession of the Chemical Weapons Convention together with the UN Secretary General, the confidant of the convention, which will enter into force for the State of Palestine on June 16, 2018,” the OPCW press release said.

In late December last year, it was reported that the Palestinian Authority was going to file documents on accession to 22 international conventions and treaties in protest against the decision by US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

They included, among other things, treaties such as the Chemical Weapons Convention, the Geneva Protocol, the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use of Chemical Weapons, the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

Hihi! Pallywood is really into coppying the White Helmets!
Wait, soon they’ll accuse Israel of using chemical weapons
while actually, Israelis have never been into this and signed in OPCW from
the start! I bet they’ll fill complaint for tear-gas used for riot control as being mustard gas, ROFL!
