BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 P.M.) – A source from the Pakistani military told Al-Masdar News on Thursday evening that the Indian Defense Minister’s claims about downing an F-16 jet are false.
According to the source, two Indian MiG 21 jets were shot down by Pakistan’s domestically manufactured JF-17 Thunder jets on Wednesday, resulting in the capture of one IAF pilot and the death of another.
The source said one of the MiG-21 jets was downed over Indian-controlled Kashmir and the other over the Pakistani-controlled Kashmir.
He said Pakistan suffered no losses in personnel or aircraft, despite the claims by the Indian Ministry of Defense on Thursday.
Furthermore, the Pakistani Air Force did not use any F-16s during the air battle; instead, they relied on their JF-17 jets.
When asked if a dog fight occurred, the Pakistani military source said ‘yes’, but denied the Indian Ministry of Defense’s report about eight IAF jets taking on two dozen Pakistani warplanes.
He confirmed that the captured Indian pilot is going to be released on Friday as a gesture of goodwill from the Pakistani government.
