Pakistan Army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor confirmed Pakistan shot down two Indian fighter jets on Wednesday, during a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday.
“When PAF [Pakistan Air Force] struck [the] targets, two IAF[Indian Air Force] planes violated the Line of Control and entered Pakistan. PAF was ready, there was an engagement and as a result both Indian planes were shot down”, he stated.
The spokesperson also said that the aerial engagement led to one of the warplanes falling on the Indian side of Kashmir and the other coming down inside the Pakistan side.
On Tuesday, India launched air raids on what it said was a Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) training base in Pakistan’s Balakot, leading to an escalation of tensions between the neighbouring countries.
