BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:45 P.M.) – Over 900 corpses have been found inside the mass graves in eastern Syria, the commander of the Iraqi-led Hashd Al-Sha’abi (var. Popular Mobilization Units) forces in the Al-Anbar Governorate, Qatari al-Obaidi, said on Wednesday
According to Al-Obaidi, the majority of the corpses are believed to be Iraqis that were previously imprisoned by the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in the border-city of Al-Qa’im.
He added that the Daesh terrorists had transferred and executed tens of inmates at these prisons before the Iraqi security forces started military operations in western al-Anbar.
The majority of the mass graves were found by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) during their combing operation near the Syrian border-city of Albukamal.
The Syrian Arab Army said on Wednesday that at least one corpses have been pulled from these mass graves already; they are working to pull more bodies in the coming days.
