Western-backed rebels managed on Tuesday to take over Brigade 25 in the southern province of Daraa after army soldiers retreated to a nearby post.
The attacking forces launched their offensive early at dawn within their fresh push against President Assad’s forces in the southern province.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Air Force carried out several airstrikes against militant positions to cover the retreating forces.
Activists report scores have been killed and wounded from both sides, without specifying numbers. However, a number of deserted army vehicles were seen ablaze.
Pro-opposition activists also said the rebels captured the nearby village of Mleiha al-Sharqiyeh.
The groups involved in the offensive include Jaysh Al-Islam, Ahrar Al-Sham and Asoud Al-Harb among others.
