DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:55 P.M.) – A retaliatory offensive launched earlier today by a jihadi alliance has forced the Syrian forces to withdraw troops from two towns in north-west Hama countryside.

The towns of Al-Hamameyah and Kernaz have become under jihadist control following a fierce assault launched by a newly-formed coalition which includes Jabhet Tahrir Sourya, the Turkistan Islamic Party and the FSA-affiliated Jaysh al-Izza.

However, a military source confirmed that the Syrian Army still hold the strategic hilltop overlooking Al-Hamameyah.

“If we are capable of holding the fort at the hilltop, the militants won’t be able to fortify positions in the two towns, and eventually we will restore them,” the same source added.

The reckless attack has cost the jihadi alliance more than 15 militants including Khattab Al-Huwyz, commander of the Shock Forces who was killed while storming kernaz.

The Syrian and Russian fighter jets were the first responders to the assault, with more than 25 airstrikes launched against jihadi positions and gatherings.

The offensive is kicked-off in solidarity with rebel groups in Eastern Ghouta which increasingly falls to the Syrian Army’s control.
