On Tuesday morning, the conglomerate of Islamist factions “Fateh Halab” – led by Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Islam – launched a large-scale assault on the northern Aleppo towns of Bashkoy and Duwayr Al-Zeitoun, where they encountered the well-prepared and well-armed units of National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
Initially, the Islamist factions experienced some success at Bashkoy, capturing the eastern entrance (Al-Kitlet Al-Afghan) of the town and the nearby Poultry Farms after a series of fierce firefights with the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces on Tuesday morning.
However, as the firefights intensified between the Syrian Armed Forces and Fateh Halab, the casualties began to mount for the aforementioned Islamist fighters at Bashkoy, resulting in a sudden withdrawal from the Poultry Farms at Bashkoy to their positions at the nearby town of Rityan.
According to a military source, the two opposing parties clashed all night, with neither side gaining the upper-hand at the western entrance of Bashkoy and the northwestern farms of Duwayr Al-Zeitoun.
The source added that over 20 enemy combatants have been killed at Bashkoy so far, including Aymen Abu Khattab (Jaysh Al-Islam), Mohammad Al-Jarzanazi (Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham), and Riyad Al-Najras (Jaysh Al-Islam).
The factions that make up Fateh Halab are the following: Jaysh Al-Islam, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nour Al-Deen Al-Zinki, Jabhat Al-Shamiyah, Liwaa Suqour Al-Jabal (Faylaq Al-Sham faction), the Free Syrian Army’s 101st Brigade, Tajma’ Fastaqam Kama Emrat, Liwaa Ansar Al-Sunnah, and Liwaa Halab Al-Medani.
