German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated that “there is no legal basis for the actions of the Russian military” in the Azov Sea, at a press conference alongside the Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Thursday in Berlin.

“What we don’t want is the militarization of the conflict. We would want a political process,” Maas added.

He also spoke about the Nordstream II pipeline extension saying that “the withdrawal of German companies from this project would not mean that this gas pipeline would not be built. It would be built by the Russians alone.”

Maas also claimed that the renovation of existing infrastructure in Ukraine would also be a viable alternative should the plans fall through.

Got it the wrong way round, Herr Maas:
“There’s no legal basis for the action of Kiev’s military in the Sea of Azov”.

Kiew has the right to pass to and from the Azov Sea without being hazarded in any way. The strait are no sole Russian territory but a shipping road.

Considering that Ukraine’s politicians have called for the destruction of the Crimea bridge, its Russia’s responsibility to protect their civilian infrastructure from Nazis.

And for Poroshenkos provocation all he achieved was losing the entire Ukrainian Navy in about 1 hour.

Next time your BFF’s can ask for clearance to pass through like everyone else.

@Rix, from what I found out so far the ships lacked the transponders that by international convention are needed to pass such straits. It is like not showing Your ticket or ID card when requested. The transponders are all the clearance such ships need. Russia was justified to search the vessels to verify the identity and complain but no more. What Ukraine’s politicians call for, doesn’t matter as long as they do not try. Pre emptive Russian strikes are not justified by words. p.s. Obviously 5 people do not like international conventions that apply to Russia also and voted me… Read more »

@jmNZ. Maas got it right: read the 2003 Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch. 1) The sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch are historically internal waters of the Russian Federation and the Ukraine. 4) Mercantile vessels and other state non-commercial vessels flying the flags of the Russian Federation and the Ukraine have free navigation in the sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch.

What happened near Kerch was a clear provocation by pig Poroshenko who sent his soldats to death.

But thanksgod the Russians did not killed any of them. Only injured and caught.

PS I think the UA soldats are happy that they are in Ru, even in prison.

@Piro, the ships merely did not have the transponders that allow them to pass unchecked. Read Sputnik that educates.
