BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:20 P.M.) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Center has officially denied the existence of a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual (LGBT) formation within its front-line ranks that is currently involved in the battle for Raqqa.
The statement by the SDF’s official information outlet comes after rumors were spread on social media of the existence of a unit within the US-backed proxy alliance made up of homosexual men who where fighting ISIS in Raqqa.
The source of the rumors was the announcement of a new anti-ISIS formation called the Queer Insurrection and Liberation Army by a group of international volunteers fighting along Kurdish forces.
Mustafa Bali was the spokesman who announced the SDF’s denial that such a unit was was present in or around the embattled city of Raqqa. Bali nonetheless emphasized that the collective ideology of the SDF respects human rights, “including the rights of homosexuals.”
