On Wednesday morning, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) was duped by the Syrian Arab Army’s “Cheetah Forces” after the latter mysteriously withdrew from the strategic town of Sheikh Ahmad near the Kuweires Military Airport; this prompted social media activists from the terrorist group to prematurely declare victory.
However, a few hours after withdrawing from Sheikh Ahmad, the SAA’s Cheetah Forces returned to the town; and this time, they came back with several tanks that were commandeered by the SAA’s “Tiger Forces”.
The Cheetah Forces restarted their assaulted inside Sheikh Ahmad around 12:30 P.M. (Damascus Time), when they stormed ISIS’ defenses at the southern district of the town, killing several of the enemy combatants before declaring control over this zone.
Following the capture of the southern district, the Cheetah Forces – alongside the Tiger Forces and the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City – struck ISIS’ defensive positions at the town-center, resulting in the aforementioned terrorist group’s withdrawal to the railway barrier.
The Cheetah Forces and their allies were able to fight their way back to railway barrier and then subsequently crossed over the Aleppo-Baghdad International Railroad to enter the northern district of Sheikh Ahmad.
Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces are clashing with ISIS in the northern district of Sheikh Ahmad – they have not captured the town, despite claims made by social media activists in support of the Syrian Arab Army.
If the Syrian Armed Forces capture Sheikh Ahmad, they will be less than 2km away from lifting the 2 year long siege of the Kuweires Military Airport.
