BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 P.M.) – The Venezuelan government has denied reports that military defectors loyal to opposition leader Juan Guido seized the La Carlota Airbase in Caracas.
However, a new photo posted by teleSUR shows Guaido and the Venezuelan military defectors in control of an interchange near the airbase.
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino released a statement calling most of the reports from the Guaido loyalists false, including their claims of being in control of the La Carlota Airbase.
For Juan Guaido and his allies, this appears to be their last attempt to overthrow the government of Nicolas Maduro, as there is likely no going back from this move.
Guaido has relied on foreign support, mostly from the United States, to threaten Maduro’s administration; however, thus far, he has been unable to overthrow the president, despite the heavy sanctions imposed on the country by western nations.
