DAMASCUS, SYRIA (12:50 P.M.) – Despite multiple reports to the contrary, ISIS still controls at least some of Abu Kamal City as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have not yet secured the northern suburbs.
A short video released by Amaq Agency on Friday evening shows Islamic State militants engaging pro-government forces on the perimeter of Abu Kamal, destroying two armored vehicles and a bulldozer with anti-tank missiles.
The footage then showed ISIS driving through the streets of Abu Kamal – the terror group still claims to have full control of the city:
Most of the video is likely recorded earlier this week before the SAA launched the surprise assault on the Abu Kamal, heavily aided by Hezbollah and Iraqi paramilitary factions.
In the meantime, a Russian television channel released footage from the SAA’s side of events on Friday too; field reporters embedded with the SAA confirmed that ISIS insurgents were not fully expelled from Abu Kamal although they were expected to retreat northwards along the Euphrates River shortly:
