NATO is building up its naval presence in the Eastern Mediterranean as the United States, Britain and France prepare to carry out new strikes against Syria under the pretext of an unlikely Syrian government chemical weapons attack in Idlib province.

Warships from NATO’s 2nd Standing Maritime Group are patrolling Eastern Mediterranean waters, moving closer and closer to the Syrian coast, media reports said, citing Western websites monitoring naval activity in the region.

The NATO flotilla cruising off the Syrian coast reportedly consists of a Dutch frigate, the De Ruyter, a Canadian frigate, the Ville de Quebec, and a Greek cruiser, the Elli. This information was confirmed by the captain of the Dutch frigate in his microblog.

According to earlier reports, a Los Angeles-Class US submarine, the USS Newport News, armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, has entered the Mediterranean Sea to join a US naval task force consisting of two nuclear submarines with cruise missiles on board and two Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers, the USS Carney and the USS Ross.

Recently, the Russian military said that the militants are preparing to use chemical weapons in Syria, and the US could use this as a reason for a new attack on Syrian state facilities.

Enough now Russia. If they attack Syria, take them out or lose all credibility.

Since Russia or China can veto ANY UNSC decision, you’re proving yourself braindead as usual.

ROFL!
2 frigates, 1 cruiser, 2 destroyers and 3 submarines when all north-Mediterranean sea countries are NATO is nothing exceptional, in fact, it’s even a VERY LOW presence : Russia has twice/thrice as much vessels patrolling Syrian EEZ.
The US aircraft carrier normally always patrolling the Mediterranean sea is even in its Norfolk port now!
Obviously, the French, Italian and Spanish aircraft carriers are not patrolling too…
Seeing a build-up there denotes some serious idiocy…

Serious load of BS! Why? Look where are US aircraft carriers NOW! 5 are in maintenance, 3 are at their ports and only 2 are patrolling, one near Japan, the other in west Atlantic-North. Usually, there is always a CVN in the Mediterranean sea and one for the Indian Ocean. The US naval presence in the Mediterranean sea is VERY LOW now! There are combined NATO/Egypt drills happening now. Having a flotilla with a Dutch, a Canuck and a Greek vessels has nothing special. Two Arleigh Burke destroyers escorted by 3 submarines is nothing special too especially since there is… Read more »

And the reason? Pleasing some serious clients, e.g. getting huge contracts in Qatar which also harbours the biggest US airbase in the Mid-East and they freaking dilapidate money, it’s even why many close their eyes on Qatar’s extremely malign activities.
Thus, think about it : volleys of cruise missiles normally flying too low to be hit by any ground-based air-defenses getting intercepted pretty easily means these flew higher than a 30-50m altitude…
Hey, advertising to sell Pantsir and upgrades for Buk, even for S-75, S-200 etc… Russians are also advertising ECM systems and about 200 new systems or upgrades…

The US/NATO/EU are still hellbent on regime change….one way or the other, for now they don`t say it publicly.

If there was/had been a real will of regime change in Syria, Assad would be pushing up the daisies for long! Just imagine what the fully loaded French aircraft carrier could have done : 36 Rafale-M can do the job of a hundred Growlers or even more air-superiority job than F-22… Moreover, use 5-6 Apache stealth cruise missiles and you totally fück up the runway of an airbase. Nobody else has it. Rafale lowers the S-400’s 91NE6 anti-stealth radar to 12km… Gaddafi who had barely the same air-defenses as Assad but in way bigger numbers could do nothing, in one… Read more »
