BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:20 P.M.) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg praised Turkey and the USA for reaching an agreement on a roadmap for how to deal with Kurdish militants in northern Syria, speaking in Brussels on Wednesday.
While he praised the agreement, Stoltenberg did not reveal its contents, saying that it was for both countries’ duty to do so.
The roadmap for Manbij was announced on Monday following a meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Stoltenberg also touched on NATO’s attitude towards Russia, saying he did not want to ‘isolate’ one of its neighbours but having ‘defence’ and ‘deterrence’ was of the utmost significance.
“I think it is important to continue this dialogue. The dialogue with Russia is not easy. That’s exactly why it is so important,” he concluded.
