BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:27 A.M.) – Nationalists attempted to block the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint in the Haskovo Province on Tuesday. The Nationalists of United Patriots (VMRO) coalition led the demonstration which lay near the Bulgarian-Turkish border, as part of the call to stop “Electoral tourism”.
The protestors believed that Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, can have greater political influence in the Balkan country by galvanizing its significant Turkish minority.
“Because none of us want Erdogan to define the way we are living, because you saw in the last days the arrogant interference in our interior political life,” Angel Djambazki, Vice President of VMRO, said.
Mario Gospodinov a protester said that: “It’s unacceptable for people who have no empathy with our lives to define our destiny. We have waited enough and I believe at these elections we will see the beginning of the end.”
“At the time Bulgarians were wearing this costume we were under Turkish slavery, and we do not want ethnic Turkish political parties to rule in Bulgaria,” Asen Kirov, a protestor, explained as the involvement in the protest.
