BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:25 P.M.) – An entire armored regiment of the Free Syrian Army officially graduated in northern Aleppo today following months of training and equipment acquisition by the aid of outside powers.
The armored regiment in question belongs to the Hamza Division, a powerful sub-faction of the Free Syrian Army, which – trained and equipped by both Turkey and the United States – continues to expand its ranks.
According to opposition sources, some fifteen hundred (1,500) Free Syrian Army fighters graduated following the completion of their training and the arrival of new military equipment – including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and gun-trucks – to outfit their formation.
The ceremony, which started several days ago, took place in the north Aleppo town of al-Bab, a major stronghold for Turkey-led militant groups which occupy the region.
The Hamza Division is part of the newly-raised so-called ‘Syrian National Army’ – the opposition government’s attempt to create a face-value legitimate fighting force in Syria.
