BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:00 P.M.) – A massive explosion was reported at the Shayrat Airbase in central Syria on Saturday, resulting in several deaths and injuries.
Accoridng to a military source at the airbase, several explosions took place at an ammunition depot, which was believed to have overheated due to the temperature.
The source added that 28 soldiers were killed and many more wounded as a result of the explosion at the Shayrat Airbase.
Among the soldiers killed were several high-ranking officers that were headquartered near the ammunition depot.
The Shayrat Airbase was previously attacked by the U.S. Armed Forces in April of 2017 after Washington accused the Syrian government of carrying out a chemical weapons attack on the Idlib Governorate town of Khan Sheikhoun.
