BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:09 P.M.) – On Monday morning, the Syrian Army and pro-government paramilitary outfits seized several important areas from rebel forces along the Homs-Hama provincial border in the Ar-Rastan region.

Military-affiliated sources have identified the captured areas as the village of Beit Ray, the valley of Wadi Khanazir, and mountain of Jabal Jinn.

It is unclear if rebel fighters attempted to defend the above-mentioned areas from advancing Syrian Army forces or if they simply conceded them. Given the general density of the militant presence in the countryside around Ar-Rastan, it is hard to believe that clashes did not take place.

Beginning on Sunday, the Syrian Army recommenced its long-awaited operation to seize Ar-Rastan city and its surrounding area by force following the failure of rebel groups to abide by set reconciliation terms.
