BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) – After a week of extremely violent clashes, the Syrian Army – supported by Palestinian forces and Russian airpower – has managed to reduce Islamic State controlled territory in southern Damascus by about one-third.
During the last week, pro-government forces have conducted a concentrated bombardment against terrorists using warplanes and rocket artillery on a scale hitherto unseen not just in any battle around Damascus, but anywhere in Syria in the last seven years of war.
The main advance was achieved just yesterday, with the Syrian Army taking full control of the Al-Qadam district as well as the nearby neighborhoods of Al-Madaniyah and Al-Asali.
It is worth mentioning that the combined combatant death toll for both sides now exceeds 400 at the very least with Islamic State forces having endured the greater part of this number.
