DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2: 50 P.M.) – Battles between a US-backed rebel group and the Islamic State militants continue to rage in eastern Syria as US-coalition provide military support for its proxies in order to secure the entire border area with Iraq.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have concluded phase 1 of the military campaign by capturing the group’s stronghold of Dashisha and its surrounding 2 weeks ago.
Now the second phase, according to an SDF source, will aim at expelling the terror group from the territories they control southward before engaging in the fight inside the stretching desert in southern Hasakah countryside.
The Kurdish forces are now positioned some 7 km away from Toymeen town; another ISIS bastion and the next target for the campaign.
The campaign, dubbed Operation Jazeera Storm, receives huge military and logistic support by the US and French militaries.
