BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 A.M.) – The Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, posted a video via their official Facebook page, which showed the Turkish aircraft they shot down near the Al-Watiyah Airbase.
According to the LNA, their air defenses shot down the Turkish aircraft as it was attempting to bomb their positions at the strategic Al-Watiyah Airbase in the western part of Libya.
The Libyan National Army did not specify which air defense system they used to shoot down the Turkish aircraft; however, it is very likely they used the Russian-made Pantsir-S system, which has been used on several occasions to down drones and fighter jets.
In the video posted by the Libyan National Army, the remains of the Turkish aircraft can be seen after the LNA’s forces arrived at the seen to observe its debris.
Since Monday, the Libyan National Army has shot down at least a five Turkish aircraft, including armed drones that are operated by the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) forces.
The Turkish military is currently aiding the GNA and its allied forces, as they attempt to stop the LNA from capturing their areas and uniting the country.
