BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:10 P.M.) – Lebanon’s General Security Chief, Major General ‘Abbas Ibrahim, stated on Thursday that he has contacted the Syrian government in a bid to begin the repatriation of refugees back to their homeland.
“Contacts with Syrian authorities are underway in a bid to return thousands of refugees back to their homes. The issue is imminent,” said Ibrahim during the inauguration ceremony of the General Security center in Jdeideh.
Lebanon has been actively working to return refugees to Syria since the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) retook the last militant-held areas in Damascus.
At least 1.5 million Syrian refugees are currently living inside of Lebanon as a result of the ongoing Syrian Conflict, which is entering its eighth year.
