BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 P.M.) – Lebanon has rejected Russia’s offer of military aid after pressure from the United States, Al-Akhbar reported on Monday.

“It’s obvious in Lebanon, as in Moscow, that the Americans are preventing Lebanon’s military cooperation with Russia,” the Lebanese daily said.

“On the eve of Independence Day, Lebanon refused a gift of ammunition from the Russian Ministry of Defense; this included multi-caliber machine guns and medium-caliber bullets (approximately $5 million worth in addition to ammunition and explosives),” the report continued.
The Al-Akhbar report said that there is someone in the government or military that is carrying out the wishes of the U.S. by rejecting the acquisition of these weapons from the Russians.
The Lebanese military has been reliant on the U.S. for military aid, but the arms provided are limited by Washington.
Lebanon still does not possess fighter jets, nor do they have substantial air defense program, despite the constant breach of their airspace by Israel.
