Lebanese Prime Minister, Tammam Salaam, and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, held a meeting at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey to discuss the Syrian refugee crisis.
Premier Salaam asserted to the German Chancellor that Lebanon will not naturalize the Syrian refugees:
“Our country cannot, as per the Lebanese constitution, approve of or accept any act of integrating, naturalizing or even resettling Syrians,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Salaam added that Lebanon supports a political solution in Syria that will allow the refugees to return safely.
“We firmly believe that a gradual return of Syrian refugees to safe territories in their homeland will undoubtedly influence the course of reconciliation,” the Prime Minister said.
