On Tuesday morning, the Lebanese Armed Forces arrested a man that was suspected to carry out a terrorist attack in the Tripoli Governorate. The suspected terrorist was apprehended in the Al-Mankoubeen Quarter with multiple explosives that he planned to utilize in the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood of the provincial capital 2 days after the twin suicide bombings took place in this same area.
Sources close to Al-Masdar News reported that the man was identified as the Lebanese-born, Bassaam Hussaam Naaboush of Baab Al-Tabaneh. Naaboush is believed to be a member of the Al-Qaeda linked “Al-Nusra Front” (Jabhat Al-Nusra) militant group that is operating inside Lebanon and Syria. The Lebanese Armed Forces have issued a public statement confirming his arrest today.
At the ‘Arsal District on the border of Syria, the Lebanese Armed Forces arrested 2 more terror suspects in the village of Wadi Hameed. The suspects were identified as Ziad ‘Abdel-Kareem Hijeeri from ‘Arsal (Lebanese national) and ‘Abdullah Badraan from Zabadani (Syrian national). They become under suspicion when they attempted to bypass a Lebanese Army checkpoint in their Kia vehicle in order to evade detainment.
No weapons were found in the suspects’ vehicle; however, Hijeeri has been arrested twice for terror-related activity in the ‘Arsal District. Hijeeri claimed to Lebanese Security Forces that he was driving his Syrian employee home from work and then subsequently lied about his identity.
