BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:35 A.M.) – At least 400 civilians inside Raqqa city and the provincial countryside have been freed by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), local activists reported on Tuesday.

The 400 civilians have now been transferred to safe areas, where they will receive care from local NGOs and the PYD regime operating in the Raqqa countryside.

Pictures released by Kurdish activists on Tuesday showed dozens of families fleeing the war-zone after several years of rule by the Islamic State.

With the Syrian Democratic Forces closing in on the Islamic State’s last bastion in Raqqa city, thousands of more civilians are expected to be freed from the terrorist group’s grasp.
