BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:20 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) renewed their offensive in the Islamic State’s (ISIS) de facto capital, Al-Mayadeen, this week, striking the terrorist group’s positions in the western district of the city.

Using heavy artillery and missiles, the Syrian Arab Army’s Tiger Forces stormed Al-Mayadeen from two axes, liberating at least 50 percent of the city before nightfall on Wednesday.

With the Syrian Army advancing western Al-Mayadeen, the Russian Air Force has launched nonstop airstrikes over the city, inflicting heavy damage on the Islamic State’s fractured defenses.

Russian jets continued to pound the Islamic State’s defenses overnight, paving the way for the Syrian Army to resume their ground assault this morning.

The Syrian Army liberated the western districts of Al-Mayadeen last week; however, they were ultimately ultimately forced to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties at the hands of the Islamic State.
