BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a surprise assault inside the southwestern sector of Aleppo on Wednesday morning, targeting the Souq Al-Jabes area that was under the control of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
Backed by heavy airstrikes from the Syrian Air Force, the Republican Guard forces managed to seize the Souq Al-Jabes area after a fierce battle with the jihadist rebels this afternoon.
Following the capture of Souq Al-Jabes, the Syrian Arab Army continued their advance inside the Aqrab area of southwestern Aleppo, sparking another series of intense clashes with the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham militants.
According to a local source, the Syrian Arab Army is currently attempting to take full control of the Aqrab area in order to safe-guard the strategic 1070 Housing Project and Artillery Academy.
The Syrian Arab Army lost Souq Al-Jabes in September 2016 when the jihadist rebels of Jaysh Al-Fateh launched a massive offensive to lift the siege on east Aleppo.
